Tocomin SupraBio (Tocotrienols) Description
The Vitamin E family is comprised of eight (8) chemically distinct compounds: four tocopherols and four tocotrienols – alpha, beta, gamma and delta. Tocotrienols differ from tocopherols by having an unsaturated side tail that results in significantly different biological activities. Tocomin SupraBio® has been the subject of clinical trials for skin, brain and cardiovascular health.
Tocotrienols, another class of vitamin E, found in dietary sources such as palm oil and rice bran, have been studied for their ability to reduce cholesterol levels, modulate cellular signaling pathways, and provide neuroprotective benefits in neurodegeneration [26,27]. Tocotrienol possesses an unsaturated isoprenoid side chain, which enhances their mobility in cell membranes and potentially allows better distribution in specific tissues such as the brain, skin, and liver [28,29,30]. Despite having a binding affinity to α-TTP of only 12% that of α-tocopherol [31], oral supplementation of tocotrienol was shown to increase in various types of tissue including blood, skin, adipose, brain, cardiac muscle and liver. [32]. Tocotrienols possess various beneficial properties such as a potent antioxidant and anticancer properties, anti-inflammatory effects, and cholesterol-lowering activity [33,34,35,36]. They also play a role in modulating gut microbiome balance [37] and, importantly, exhibit neuroprotective potential, particularly in the context of neurodegenerative diseases [3,38].
