FAQ

What is Lycopene and what is it used for?

Lycopene is an antioxidant and pigment that gives red fruits their color. It is a type of carotenoid that is widely used for the heart, eyes, brain, cancer and men's health. Its mechanism of action is thought to be due to its strong antioxidant properties.

How much Lycopene should I take?

Typical doses range from 5mg to 75mg daily taken once or twice a day depending on indication. However generally speaking 10mg twice a day to 20mg twice a day seems to be most common.

When should I take Lycopene?

Lycopene is oil soluble so best to take with food any time of day.

What are the side effects and precautions of Lycopene?

Although Lycopene is a carotenoid, it is totally different to Vitamin A so you shouldn't worry about Vitamin A toxicity from Lycopene. There are not many known side effects from taking Lycopene however, you may develop a skin coloration from the yellow/orange pigment of Lycopene that resolves after stopping its intake. One precaution to take note of is that Lycopene may thin the blood so speak with your doctor is you have any blood clotting issues such as risk of stroke and cardiovascular disease. In case you do proceed with taking Lycopene, you should watch out for signs of bleeding such as easy bruising, coffee ground stools, open wounds that take a long time to heal and stomach reflux.

What's so special about Healthy Origins Lycopene?

Healthy Origins Lycopene uses Lyc-O-Mato, a trademarked brand that consists of a standardized lycopene formula. It contains not only Lycopene, but a full spectrum of tomato carotenoids and other antioxidants such as phytoene. This in turn enhances Lycopene's antioxidant effects, making it more effective than typical Lycopene products.
