Magnesium (Mg) plays an essential role in supporting cognitive function and brain health. Preliminary research suggests that Magtein® (magnesium L-threonate) may provide more magnesium to the brain than other forms of magnesium. In preclinical studies, Magtein® was shown to support healthy memory and learning as well as healthy brain synapse density in regions of the brain associated with memory. These preclinical findings have now been validated by a clinical study showing positive results in tests of overall cognitive ability after 12 weeks’ use of magnesium threonate.

Suggested use

3 capsules daily, preferably in divided doses. Start with 1 capsule daily and gradually increase to 3 capsules daily.

Other ingredients

Gelatin (capsule), maltodextrin, silica, and magnesium stearate.

Contains no yeast, dairy, egg, gluten, soy or wheat. Contains no preservatives, or artificial color, flavor or fragrance.

What is Magnesium L-Threonate used for?

Magnesium L-Threonate is used specifically for cognitive improvement, learning enhancement, mood elevation and anxiety relief.

What's the difference between other types of magnesium?

This particular form crosses the blood brain barrier and exerts its effects in the brain. Other forms such as citrate, malate, do not. While magnesium glycinate also crosses to the brain, it does not increase neuronal intracellular magnesium levels, whereas Magnesium L-Threonate does. However, it is not used to treat Magnesium deficiency or other problems related to magnesium as its elemental magnesium content is very low (with 2g of Magtein there is only 144mg of Magnesium).

How much Magnesium L-Threonate should I take?

Generally speaking the dose is 2g per day in divided doses. There's not much dose variation as it mainly acts on the brain and everyone's brain is roughly the same size (or is it?). In all seriousnes, usually the dose is simply determined by that used in research studies and current research does not support the use of other doses or such research has not yet been conducted.

When should I take Magnesium L-Threonate?

If possible, separate the doses, morning, afternoon and at night. If you can't, you can take it all at night or try 1 in the morning and 2 at night. Sometimes if you have anxiety you may also use it as required.

What are the side effects and precautions of Magnesium L-Threonate?

Main side effects would be related to overdosing magnesium, which is very unrealistic as 2g of Magtein only contains 144mg of magnesium. The following may occur: diarrhoea, abdominal cramps and nausea.
