Glutathione is an antioxidant made of amino acids glycine, cysteine, and glutamic acid. It is important for tissue repair, protein synthesis and healthy immune function. Glutathione has also been used to decrease skin pigmentation & increase elasticity, support healthy liver function and maintain healthy insulin levels.
Typical doses range from 500mg to 1000mg daily. If taking 1000mg the dose can be split twice daily. You may also take some Vitamin C (500mg) to increase the antioxidant properties of glutathione. It may take a few weeks before you notice any effects from glutathione (if any at all).
Glutathione can be taken any time of day. It may have a better absorption if taken on an empty stomach but the addition of Vitamin C will enhance the effects of Glutathione.
Gastro side effects such as abdominal cramps and bloating are common but are generally very mild. People with a sulfur allergy should watch out as Glutathione contains Sulfur.
