Maca is the root of a vegetable native to the Andes region of Peru. Known commonly as Peruvian ginseng (though they are not in the same family), maca is a cruciferous vegetable (like cabbage, arugula, Brussels sprouts, broccoli) and contains glucosinolates. These compounds have been studied for a number of different applications. Though the plant grows in harsh climates above 13,000’ in the Andes Mountains of South America, it has been used by the Incans for millennia for energy and stamina.
