Source Naturals Turmeric With Meriva® Description

For Healthy Inflammation Response

Curcumin from turmeric supports the healthy inflammatory response through an array of complex biochemical mechanisms. Because curcumin is difficult to absorb, Turmeric with Meriva® uses a specialized extract combined with phosphatidylcholine to help generate greater curcumin bioavailability than common turmeric extracts.1
1Healthy inflammatory responses are a critical component of human health.

FAQ

What is Turmeric used for?

Turmeric contains active ingredients called Curcuminoids in which the majority and most studied form of that is Curcumin. It is mainly used to suppress inflammation of the joints due to its inhibitory effects on the COX-2 enzyme, similar to Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatories like Ibuprofen. Apart from that, Turmeric is also used for heart health (cholesterol and blood thinning), gut health and skin health.

How much Turmeric should I take?

Every Turmeric Extract contains different levels of Curcuminoids and Curcumin, ranging anywhere between 20% to 95% of Curcuminoids, whereas Curcumin accounts for about 70% of total Curcuminoids. This is why you should look at how much Curcuminoids you get instead of the amount of Turmeric that is written on the label. Some brands don't state how much curcuminoids are inside their products so be sure to avoid those. Typical doses range from 500mg to 1000mg of Curcumin daily depending on indication, but higher doses have been used.

When should I take Turmeric?

You should take Turmeric with food as Curcuminoids are oil soluble. Furthermore, taking with food will reduce the risk of gastro side effects.

What are the side effects of Turmeric?

Stomach relfux is a common side effect of Turmeric, but it is generally well tolerated. Patients who are taking Anti-Inflammatories like Ibuprofen should not take both together, and patients with blood clotting conditions should speak with their doctors first as Turmeric can thin the blood and cause bleeding.

What's so special about Meriva Turmeric?

The Curcumin in Meriva is bound with a phospholipid that optmizes its absorption. It has been reported that it delivers a 29x higher absorption than regular curcumin. Note that 500mg of Meriva contains around 100mg of Curcumin but studies have shown that it is still effective at this dosage. If necessary, gradually increase the dose to 1-2g of Meriva per day, preferably in split doses.
